32 detox tips

Toxins are poisons produced by living things. They cause damage, maybe minor, maybe deadly. Toxins do accumulate in your body. You could inhale toxins (e.g. the air could be polluted, or you might inhale cigarette smoke). You could have ingested toxins without realizing it, e.g. pesticide residue on your veggies. Or your body itself could produce toxins as a by product of its daily activities.

Your body is far from defenseless. It continually gets rid of the gunk, out of the pores of the skin through sweat, or out through your urine or faeces. In cases of poisoning, your body might vomit in a bid to throw out the toxins.

Regular Spring Cleaning of your body can help keep the toxin levels down. A better way is to do everything you can to avoid taking in toxins where possible.

These tips are more for spring cleaning your body and as preventive measures. If you do encounter a case of poisoning, send the victim to the hospital or call for an ambulance immediately

detox Tip #1

Drink plenty of water to allow your body to flush out the water soluble toxins more easily via sweat and urine.

Wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly to remove all traces of pesticides before eating or cooking them.

Go for organic fruit and veggies as far as possible. If you don't go organic, then peel your carrots before cooking and cutting them as these are usually grown with lots of pesticides.

Waxy coating on fruit can trap pesticides and are pretty hard to remove. Peel any fruit with waxy coatings (e.g. apples) before eating them.

Stay away from smokers when they smoke. Even second-hand cigarette smoke is deadly. That smoke is full of toxins you don't want to inhale into yoru body.

Eat food with lots of fiber to help your body remove toxins through the faeces. Fiber bulks up the stool and helps with bowel movements which basically, excrete all these poisons from your body. Eat wholegrains, plenty of fruit and vegetables for the fiber.

Use psyllium husks to cleanse your colon. You'd be surprised how much gunk is stuck to the walls of your colon, having accumulated there for years. Psyllium husks bulk up considerably with water and that slimy goo passes down your colon easily, picking up the gunk from the walls as well as stimulating your colon to do its work.

Your lymph also helps rid your body of toxins so go for a massage to help get your lymphatic system moving.

Take a break. Once a week, take a day off from your work and do something relaxing. Stress interferes with your body's normal functions and slows down the detox enzymes in your liver.

Glutathione helps your body get rid of toxins and vitamin C helps your body produce glutathione, so take fruits that are rich in vitamin C.

Ever tried detox foot patches? Also known as body purifying foot pads. These are supposed to draw out toxin from the body, through the lymph, out through the pore on the soles of the feet. The pads are discarded after use.

Start the day with a large glass of water mixed with the juice of half a lemon squeezed into it.

If you use makeup, remove every trace of it at the end of the day. You don't want the stale makeup to clog up your pores and trap dirt underneath. Garnier detoxifying cream cleanser gets rid of every trace of makeup if you massage it on. The delicious grape scent is a major plus.

Use a clean face towel to scrub your face in the morning with warm water if you are in a major rush. You may want to use soap or a facial cleansing wash if your skin is oily.

Quit drinking alcohol, or at least cut down to one glass of wine a day maximum. Alcohol is toxic. Your body has to get rid of the alcohol or break down the poison so that it does not kill you. If your blood alcohol concentration exceeds 0.5 it can kill you.

detox Tip #19

Try dry skin brushing before your shower. While completely dry, take a skin brush and brush the soles of your feet, up the legs. Then brush up your arms from fingers to shoulders, brush your body upwards to get your lymph moving well so your body can detox itself more efficiently. Then take your shower.

detox Tip #20

Go slow when you detox and brace yourself for the side effects. Your body would have to release the toxins before it can dispose of them. The released toxins will probably make you sick with nausea, a headache, or just leave you feeling listless until your body can get rid of the released toxins. Before you seriously detox, go slow. Stop taking in more poisons like cigarette smoke and alcohol, cut down wheat and dairy products before you go full swing into your detox regime.

detox Tip #21

Cut down on your caffeine. When you detox, no caffeine is allowed either. No coffee, no tea. Not even green tea as even that contains caffeine. Instead, drink chamomile tea or rose tea or calendula tea.

detox Tip #22

Stop taking sugar when you detox. Refined or not, sugar is out when you detox. Replace sugar with honey or fruitose. Fruit juices and honey should satisfy your sweet tooth.

Exercise until you sweat. Your body uses sweat to carry away toxins as well, so a good workout cleans your body from within as well

detox Tip #24

Drink a large glass of water and go to the sauna for 20 minutes to really sweat it out. Drink another glass of water when you get out of the sauna to replace loss fluids.

detox Tip #25

Cut down meat and diary products as these produce mucus which clogs up your colon, making it harder for your body to excrete waste through your colon.

detox Tip #26

Take a dead sea salt bath. Add dead sea salt to warm water in your bath tub and just soak in there for half an hour or longer.

For you morning bath, add 5 drops lavender essential oil, 10 drops juniper or rosemary essential oil to the water to help your body detox

detox Tip #28

For your evening bath, add 5 drops of geranium oil and 10 drops of lavender oil to the bath water for your detox bath.

detox Tip #29

Drink dandelion root tea instead of coffee.

detox Tip #30

Instead of wheat that acts like glue in the colon, go for rice and oats instead.

detox Tip #31

Nettle tea is an excellent diuretic

detox Tip #32

Get moving. Exercise gets your lymph moving so that the toxins in your lymph are more easily removed from your body.
